Role Summary:

We are looking for an experienced researcher and electronic health records/claims data champion. This is the right role for you if you are passionate about using advanced analytics and patient data to deliver impactful insights. . Surgo is expanding its healthcare portfolio, and as a thought leader in clinical and/or claims data analytics,  you will be critical in linking patient pathways to our other data products and insights. You will join a dynamic and fast-paced environment and work with cross-functional teams to design, build and roll-out products that deliver the company’s vision and strategy. 

What you’ll achieve:

  • Deliver powerful HIPAA-compliant services and products that leverage diverse demographic, geospatial, clinical, and health survey data to develop risk models and actionable insights about drivers of outcomes

  • Innovate with new methodologies, analytical technologies, and data sources

  • Own the technical aspect of proposals in business development and the technical delivery of projects, from planning to analytics and reporting 

  • Foster organizational growth with mentoring and support your colleagues’ professional development

About you: 

  • 4+ years experience working with US healthcare data (e.g. EHR or claims)

  • Experience with 1 of the following programming languages: R (preferred) or Python

  • Ph.d desired or Master’s degree with experience.

  • A passion for improving healthcare and patient outcomes through data science and behavior science

  • Proven record of delivering professional services and/or data products for healthcare in the private sector

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment amidst uncertainty where you can have an outsized impact on our success

  • Experience building, QA’ing, and deploying patient risk scoring models.

  • Knowledge of product development in compliance with HIPAA  rules and regulations

  • Familiarity with SAAS products: coding for production environments, deploying both local and cloud

  • Expertise with social determinants of health, vulnerable populations, or social services in healthcare

  • Expertise with medical informatics

  • Expertise with advanced machine learning / statistical methods (e.g.  causal discovery and causal inference)

  • Excellent ability to digest and evaluate evidence from an interdisciplinary literature

  • Business development and/or project management experience 

Location: Headquartered in Washington, DC / This role is ideally DC-based, open to remote

Travel: Some domestic travel especially if working remotely (up to 10%)
