Peter Smittenaar, Ph.D.

Vice President, Data Science and AI

Staying true to my Dutch roots, I have an enormous ex-postman bicycle that fits one toddler on the front and a pre-schooler on the back. We use it to cycle around York most weekends.

As a Vice President, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Peter explores how data science and innovative technology can generate new solutions to persistent global development challenges. Using these tools, he recently uncovered new insights about how community health workers in India can communicate with families to improve the health of pregnant women and their babies.

Peter has a Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience from University College London as well as a MSc in cognitive neuroscience and BSc in molecular biology, both from Radboud University Nijmegen.
