Role Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will direct and oversee the financial activities of the company, direct the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth. The goal is to protect the company’s revenues and profits to achieve full financial control and achieve success with a growth mindset. This role will be charged with bringing this function in-house. The CFO will wear many hats and needs to focus on and embrace the tactical day-to-day, systems building, and the strategic elements of the role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial needs of the organization, build the right capabilities of the team, and company

  • Manage the company’s accounting, payroll, compensation, investor relations, legal, tax, and compliance

  • Lead all financial planning, analysis, and budgeting. Including budgeted to actual analysis and sales and profit projections

  • Work with initiative leads and leadership to monitor each initiative/project spend and make recommendations

  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts; arrange for debt and equity financing

  • Direct the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, cap tables, tax returns, and governmental agency reports

  • Manage all tax planning and compliance with all required jurisdictions

  • Report financial results to the Board of Directors; report risk issues to the audit committee of the Board of Directors

  • Generate ad hoc financial reports as required by the Founder/CEO, the Board, and other team members

  • Decide on investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks

  • Initiate, negotiate, and supervise contracts with outside vendors and other counterparties

  • Risk assessment and mitigation at the investment and firm level

  • Lead financial system integration and onboarding. Including build out, continuous improvement, and automation for financial operations

  • Analyze operations to identify areas for efficiencies

  • Oversee investment of funds and work with investment bankers to raise additional capital required for expansion

  • Ensure compliance with the law and company policies

Growth and Oversight:

  • Work with the Founder/CEO and other executives to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process

  • Work with the Founder/CEO on raising equity capital

  • Develop investor relationship strategies working with both private and public investor groups such as venture capital, private equity, and investor banks

  • Develop performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction

  • Study long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future growth in client acquisition and market share

  • Identify opportunities for expansion into new product areas

  • Review planning process and suggest improvements to current methods

Require Skills & Abilities:

  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible financial controller/financial management experience for a growth company (early stage or late stage) or division of a large corporation

  • Prior experience must be in the for-profit industry or equivalent experience

  • Experience in healthcare, technology, or customer research a plus

  • In depth knowledge of legal, tax, compliance, and risk management practices

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills

  • Proficient in accounting application systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to strategize and solve problems

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required

  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred
